How do I rent a Pavilion / Field / Gazebo at the Park?
Please call our Township Office at 269-629-4921 or stop in at the office. The form my be printed and filled out ahead of time. They are available here. The fee must be paid by cash or check. Also an Insurance Certificate must be supplied at the time of rental.
How can I pay my tax bill?
Property taxes are due by the due date posted on the tax mailing. The Township does not accept credit or debit cards at this time. Please make checks out to “Richland Township”.  

If mailing your taxes, the Township does accept postmarks as proof of payment. If you want a receipt, include a stamped addressed envelope.

Check with your bank as you may be able to set Richland Township up as a payee and pay as for free online with your bank.

If you are dropping off your taxes in-person, you can do so any time during normal office hours. However we have a drop box to the left of the front entrance if you are paying your tax bill when the office is not open.

When paying your taxes, please make sure the billing address is correct so that you receive future bills and notices as well.
How do I apply for the fire department?
Richland Township is looking to add some Hometown Heroes….could that be you ? This community can be very proud of the volunteer fire department that is a part of quality living in this area. The force has taken their training to the highest level and is first to respond when other communities are in need. The Township is looking to expand our Volunteer Firefighter corp. Exceptional training is provided, camaraderie extended, and a fulfillment of the desire to serve. Please seriously consider ‘signing on ‘ Give us  a call at (269) 629-4921 to get more information.
How do I stay abreast of township information?
Please consider attending a Township Board Meeting. Generally held every 3rd Tuesday of the Month at 7pm. CLICK HERE to verify our calendar. Also join our email list to get the latest updates from the township, Join our email list!
How do I obtain an absentee application / ballot?
Absent voter ballots are available to registered voters for all elections. Due to the passage of the statewide ballot proposal 18-3 in November 2018, all eligible and registered voters in Michigan may now request an absent voter ballot without providing a reason.

You can download an application from the Michigan Secretary of State website (click here). You may also apply in writing, including your registered address in Richland Township, where you want the ballot sent, and your signature. All written requests to have an absent voter ballot mailed to you must be received to the Township no later than 5pm the Friday before the election.

You can also come into the Township Office to get an application. In many cases, we can issue you the ballot at that time. Please be prepared to show a valid, government issued ID when you apply. You may request an absentee ballot in person up until the Saturday before any election..
Where do I get Election information?
HOW DO I REGISTER TO VOTE?
Residents who are 17 1/2 years of age or older may register to vote at the Township Offices (7401 N 32nd Street), any Secretary of States Branch Office or the Kalamazoo County Clerk’s office.   You may also register to vote on line at the Michigan Secretary of State website however; voters who have not registered to vote in person (by personally visiting one of the 3 agencies) must vote in person on their first election.   This requirement only applies to new first-time voters in the State of Michigan.
Who do I call to have my road plowed?
Most roads in our Township are maintained by the Road Commission of Kalamazoo County. The roads inside the Village of Richland are maintained by the Village of Richland. We have two State Highway, M-89 and M-43, which are maintained by Michigan Department of Transportation. Some residential streets are private roads and are maintained by the homeowners association. If you are unsure if your road is public or private, please call the Township Office at 269-629-4921. Here are links to the others agencies:
 
Where do I get a burn permit?
Under the provisions of Section 4, Act 329 P.A. 1969, permission is hereby granted this application to burn the described address providing there is 2 acres of property and period specified below. PERMITS ARE NOT VALID FOR MORE THAN FOUR (4) CONSECUTIVE DAYS.
 
ALL FIRES MUST BE ATTENDED BY A COMPETENT ADULT AT ALL TIMES UNTIL IT IS COMPLETELY EXTINGUISHED. A GARDEN HOSE AND WATER SUPPLY OR OTHER FIRE EXTINGUISHING EQUIPMENT MUST BE ON HAND WHILE BURNING. AT NO TIME WILL THE FIRE BE LEFT BURNING OR SMOLDERING UNATTENDED.
 
Burn permits can be obtained by calling the Township Office, Stopping into the Township Office, or Online.
Who do I call about my water bill?
Public water is made availble thru the City of Kalamazoo.   Questions regarding your bill, services and reporting problems may be found on their web site. 
What cannot be put in my weekly Dumpster?
The following items cannot be deposited into your weekly dumpster for disposal per Michigan Solid Waste Management Act, Section 111527.
