Weekly Water Quality Update

The Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE) continues to investigate the PFAS contamination at the former Production Plated Plastics facility in Richland, Michigan. In May 2019, 10 surface water samples were collected from 9 different surface water bodies in the study area. The results for the surface water samples have been received. 8 out of 10 surface water samples had detections of PFOS above the 12 ppt groundwater surface water interface criteria.  Sample locations and results are depicted on the map below.  At this time the surface water concentrations do not represent a human contact issue, however additional fish tissue collection and evaluation will be completed to determine if there is a need for a fish consumption advisory in any of the surface water bodies.  An additional 3 surface water samples and five residential/agricultural well samples where collected on July 3, 2019.  Results for these samples are expected back within 6 to 8 weeks.
